STI Basketball Showdown Update!!!

STI College Malolos dropped an 83-80 decision against STI College Global City. The Malolos Thunders led throughout the game but loss steam at the end-game. Eventhough we were defeated with three wins against 3 losses, the good news is that we will be advancing in the Final 4 in our first year in this tournament.

STI College Balagtas also took their first setback against STI College Sta. Rosa by a 74-73 decision. It was a close game encounter. The Balagtas Thunders was stopped in their 5-game winning streak. They ended the elimination with 5 wins and 1 loss.

Tomorrow (March 13, 2012) is the scheduled Final 4 at the Makati Coliseum. The Malolos 5 will face STI Sta. Rosa in their knockout game at 1:00 P.M. while the Balagtas 5 will go against STI Global City at 2:30 P.M. The winners of these games will advance to the champioship round while the lossers will slug it out the 2nd runner-up trophy.

The format of the Final 4 is based on the team standing at the end of the elimination round: 1 (Sta. Rosa) vs 4 (Malolos) and 2 (Balagtas) vs 3 (Global City).

Let us support our teams! Let us pray them! Let us boost their moral!

Two in a row for STI College Malolos!

The Malolos 5 won their 2nd game against STI College Caloocan via 80-63 final score in the 12th STI Basketball Showdown at the STI Academic Center.

Coach Chit's boys played their game according to their plan. All the players contributed on both ends of the floor. Alvin Detubio, RA Catahan, Jojo Quetua, Carlo Jimenez, Dirk Victoria and Levi Pineda pumped the gas in the 2nd Quarter of the game after they regained the lead from STI Caloocan and took the first half 38-26. Even the bench players took the challenge in this game. They are now tied at first place with STI College Sta. Rosa, 2-0, on the team standing.

STI College Balagtas took their first win against STI College Taft, 79-71. They are now sharing the second place spot with STI College Global City with one win apiece with no losses.
 

The Malolos 5 will play the Balagtas 5 this coming Sunday (02/26/2012) at 10:00 AM on the same venue.

Black and White

A joint students’ Christmas Party between STI College Balagtas and Malolos was held last December 19, 2011 at Bulacan Capitol Gym a.k.a KB Gym with the theme: Black and White in Winter Wonderland.

It’s the only time so far that a co-celebrated Christmas party was experienced by these two network schools highlighted by Talentadong STIer, patterned after Talentadong Pinoy in channel 5. Twelve unique acts were performed which was dominated by the eventual winner, the hand mimers of STI College Malolos. It was choreographed by Jeric Santos (BSIT3) and was interpreted by mostly IT students. The Talent Scouts ( Sir Mel , Sir Francis, and Sir Sam) were quite impressed for the originality, emotional appeal and synchronization of the act which received cheers and approval of the general audience. The group received a trophy and a cash prize of P 3,000. Job well-done Handmimers!

Second Voice of the Youth Held

              Last November 18, the 2nd Voice of the Youth National Oratorical Competition was held at STI College Balagtas with the theme, Rediscovering Filipino Values: I See. I Act. I Advocate. The aims of this contest are as follows: 1. To develop in the youth the ability to think critically and have the confidence to express their thoughts in English; 2. To provide a venue for students to express their thoughts about the situation they are in and the conditions that affect their lives; and 3. To inspire students to motivate, influence, and inform others through the act of public speaking.

               Nine participating schools from the division competed for the honor along with  their coaches, principals and supporters.  Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School’s Mica Antoinette Buenavista garnered the highest points and received the gold medal and a trophy for her school.  Ann Claire Nethercott of Holy Spirit Academy of Malolos was the runner-up while Johannah Marielle Fernandez from the Garden Angels Integrated School was adjudged as the third placer.   All of the top three finishers received medals and trophies for their schools.  The other contestants who also fared well in the competition are:  Ferhiza Maria Coronel (PBC Sunbeam), Patrick Jim Rodrigo (Balagtas National Agricultural High School), Pocholo Miguel Ampil (Immaculate Conception School for Boys), Joash Isaac Santiago (Bulacan Ecumenical School), Kherenze Roque (Taliptip National High School), and Erika Joyce Mallen (Guiguinto National Vocational HighSchool).  

For the divisional level, only the top placer can go on for the cluster competition while the champion and the runner-up for each cluster will compete for the national level.

This oratorical endeavor of the senior students won’t be possible without the guidance and wisdom of their trainers namely; Ma. Rosell Mora (PBC Sunbeam), Ailenne Jill Andaya (BNAHS), Carmencita Cruz (HSAM), Senen Pineda (ICSB), Sarah Caburnida (BES), Marie Cristie Lauigan (GAIS), Erlinda Mendoza (TNHS), Maribini De Mesa (MHDPNHS), and Bernadette Reyes (GNVHS).

Dr.Marcos Lopez of CEU, Mrs. Antonia Villarete and Dr. Bonifacio Cunanan, both from BSU acted as the jurors.  STI College Malolos served as the organizing school and its sister school STI College Balagtas became its partner for the realization of this oratorical contest.  This year’s event head was Samson Eugenio, co-chaired by Jessie Verano while Ms Millie Kaw as the cluster head.  Mr. Kerwin Kaw, the school president, awarded the medals and certificates to the winners and participants. This year’s event moderator was Ericson Peñalba.

This competition is a joint venture among STI and its network of schools, the STI Foundation, National Youth Commission (NYC), and the Department of Education (DepEd).
